WHAT I AM DOING NOW:
My private practice is in West Los Angeles, just on the boarder of Santa Monica. I began part-time in 2008 and now I am available full-time. I work out of my office that is set up for individuals, families, and couples. I also have a small area for young children. Typically, I meet with clients in my office but I will also do a home visit, a school observation or meeting, or attend an outside meeting if it is indicated therapeutically. I will offer case management in addition to the regular sessions if it will help the client with better daily functioning. Case management activities might include coordination with schools, doctors (such as general practitionner, pediatrician, or psychiatrist), other therapists (such as occupational therapists, speech therapists, behavior therapists, educational therapists, or physical therapists), and other outside agencies that might be involved (such as Regional Center or Department of Children and Family Services).
I currently facilitate a weekly toddler group at a local preschool. During this group, I offer support to the parents and children as they navigate a structured school environment and engage socially with peers, often for the first time in their lives. I might model how to help the toddlers with turn taking, conflict resolution, following structure, and being engaged during circle time. I also offer a discussion group for the parents and cover various topics relevant to their experiences raising toddlers (including but not limited to tantrums, limit setting, redirection and choices, consequences, toilet learning, sleep and eating).
In addition to the Toddler Group, I offer consultation services to preschools. These services include parenting presentations to the families, teacher trainings, and individualized care to a child and family in need of extra support. This service can include observations of the child in the natural environment; consultations with the teachers, administrators, and parents; diagnostic impressions if warranted; coordination of care with outside services; and developing a plan for the child in both the school and home environments.
Lastly, throught the years, I have provided trainings and presentations to parents and professionals, either at local schools (preschool and elementary) or in professional organizations. The topics have varried, depending on the need. Some titles have included: The Attachment Relationship; How to Manage Challenging Behaviors; Communication and Conflict Resolution; Bullying; Positive Parenting Techniques; Diagnostic Considerations for a Child; and How to Understand Parent-Child Interactions.
It is my goal to serve as many children and families in need while utilizing my knowledge and skill gained from my experiences over the years. I hope I might be able to help you and your family as well.
